Games From Spain News Recap: 9-23 August, 2024

Welcome back, visitor!

It’s Gamescom week! This week has seen some very interesting announcements related to the Spanish video game industry, both at business level and in terms of new releases. Let’s get started!

Gamescom 2024: new Spanish video games

August means Gamescom, and this year we’ve had our fair share of Spanish video games news during the event (not to forget our very own booth at Cologne that hosted plenty of stuff). We got one reveal and a new trailer of an existing game. And they both look terrific! See for yourselves:

The Game Kitchen, the studio behind The Last Door, the Blasphemous saga and All on Board! revealed their new game. The Stone of Madness blends real-time strategy and stealth mechanics in an 18th century Spanish monastery. Check the trailer and don’t forget to wishlist if this is your cup of tea.

We also had a new trailer for Retrieval, a horror adventure winner of the Best Game at the 2023 PlayStation Awards, where players will impersonate Hana Loshe on a perilous journey into darkness, uncovering secrets and facing a deep drama story full of terrifying challenges on the distant planet Ryhalian. Retrieval will feature gripping gameplay, immersive storytelling, and rich character development. The game still doesn’t have a release date but you can already wishlist it on Steam. Here’s the new look at the game as shown during the Future Games Show.

Industry news

Infinite Thread Games announced a few days back that it will be running a Kickstarter campaign to seek funding for Hidalgo, a cozy and wholesome adventure inspired by Don Quixote of La Mancha. The game will revisit the famous story written by Miguel de Cervantes while following a family’s journey through the story, facing challenges and understanding the value of unity.

Hidalgo will feature low-poly graphics that will resemble a tabletop setting. Players will embark on a journey through the most iconic locations from the novel while facing epic bosses. The Kickstarter campaign will launch on October 12, Spain’s National Day.

Games released this week

Inspired by legends related to the Canary Islands and the Guanches mythology, Guayota, by Team Delusion, depicts the story of a group of explorers, sent by the Spanish Kingdom to find the legendary Saint Brendan’s Island. As the protagonist, you will soon understand that this island, said to be paradise on Earth, might actually hide darker secrets.

Equipped with a torch, you must use the powers of fire, lights, and lasers to navigate through temples and solve their enigmas. As you progress, the challenges become increasingly complex, requiring keen observation.

OuroboroStudio has just released the Early Access version of Jousting Manager, a game that allows players to play a sports management game from a new angle. Jousting Manager lets you take control of a medieval jousting team and handle all aspects of the club as you compete to reach the top.

Improve your relations with noble houses, sign their young squires for your team, choose the best gear (and don’t forget to build new items at the end of each season) and enter tournaments that feature different events such as archery competition, capturing the ring, throwing a wooden plank using lances, and hitting the medieval dummy.

Finally, the Spanish most successful Kickstarter campaign comes to life. Mika and the Witch’s Mountain is a fantasy adventure about an aspiring witch who delivers packages to the townspeople of a small island. She will have to explore every nook and cranny and soar through the sky with her magic broom in a game inspired by A Short Hike and Studio Ghibli’s films.

Chibig’s game will have players delivering packages, getting new brooms with unique flying capabilities, and discovering all the secrets hidden in the mountain while getting to know its charming inhabitants. All with one goal in mind: to reach the top of the mountain.

And so we reach the end of today’s update. Remember to subscribe to our mailing list to receive our monthly recaps. Also, keep in touch with us via social media – you’ll find us on Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube.
