Dice, torches and madness: Pocket Dungeons of Madness is out now on the App Store
Spain, October 14, 2026. Spanish indie developer Iván Arpón has released Pocket Dungeons of Madness for iPhone and iPad under his Madman Lab label. He made it on his own, in the evenings and at weekends, over a year and a half. It's a turn-based dungeon crawler steeped in the cosmic horror of the Cthulhu Mythos, designed so a full run fits in a single sitting: 20 to 45 minutes, a new map every time, and permadeath.
Every tile you flip is a decision. The player starts in the centre of a 5x5 grid covered in fog. Every step costs energy and torchlight. To open the boss chamber they must activate every mechanism on the map, disarming traps and searching for secret doors along the way, and finding the Relic before the final fight changes it completely.
Dice combat without blind luck. The player and the enemy roll at the same time: damage is the weapon's value plus the difference between the two rolls, so every pip matters. Enemies announce their next move before they make it, and the player decides whether to block, dodge or risk a Fury strike. Bosses change form and go berserk when they're about to fall.
Three clocks against you. The torch burns down, sanity cracks in the face of Mythos horrors and, after a while, the dungeon starts to collapse. Losing your mind isn't a plain game over: the ending screen fakes a victory before revealing the truth.
The game includes three survivors (the Mercenary, the Rogue and the Sorceress), two biomes (the Dungeons of Madness and the Glaciers of Ymir) with creatures such as Byakhee, Mi-Go, Nightgaunts and Shoggoths, permanent upgrades in the Void Sanctuary, a Dungeon Constructor to design your own dungeons, Game Center achievements and leaderboards, and offline play.
First event: Night of Souls. From October 26 to November 8, a free Halloween expansion adds a new biome, the Black Goat's Orchard, and a new hero, the Gravedigger, who reaps the souls of his enemies with a scythe. Anyone who claims it during the event keeps it forever; afterwards it becomes a one-time purchase pack.
Price and availability. Pocket Dungeons of Madness is free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad running iOS 17 or later, in English and Spanish. No ads, no energy timers and no data collection. The Mercenary, the Rogue and the full Dungeons of Madness are free; the Sorceress, the Glaciers of Ymir and the Dungeon Constructor are optional one-time purchases, also bundled in the Starter Pack.
