Hi Score Science

Hi Score Science is a free game of questions and answers about science, available in Spanish and English, for mobile devices, iOS and Android – and soon for PC and Mac – whose objective is to increase the scientific culture of its users in a funny way, by bringing the science with which we live daily closer to the players. Hi Score Science is not only a multi-choice question-and-answer game about science, but it also allows the players to immerse themselves in the science and its advances thanks to this project developed by two research centers: the Institute of Chemical Synthesis and Homogeneous Catalysis (ISQCH) and the Aragón Materials Science Institute (ICMA) -both of them, mixed centers between the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Zaragoza (UNIZAR)-. Therefore, and since it is an outreach project developed by two research centers, the game includes educational explanations of the scientific reality which is hidden behind each response, seeking to awake people’s curiosity for science. We also want users to feel part of the project and that’s why they are encouraged to collaborate in the development of the scientific content of the game, for what they will be rewarded. To this end, two competitions have been created at the national level: one for high school students and another senior. In addition, the school competition at a regional level in Aragon will be maintained. You will find more information on how to collaborate in the “Contest” section. Thanks to its innovative format in game mode, Hi Score Science has already become a tool demanded by teachers who use it as a tool in their classrooms, which allows them to approach the teenagers’ universe to increase their scientific culture and vocation. The Hi Score Science project has received several awards and recognitions at an international, national and regional level: the First Prize in the international competition of Ciencia en Acción (Science in Action) in the “Interactive Science Teaching Materials” category (IBM Award); the D + I TOP SEAL, a national recognition that awards the best projects of inclusive scientific dissemination; and the nomination to the Premios Tercer Milenio (Third Millennium Awards) in the “Dissemination in Aragon” category, among them.
