Games From Spain News Recap July 12-19 July, 2024

Welcome back, visitor! Another hot Summer Friday, here we are to bring you the most relevant news on Spanish game development and industry happenings. Let’s get started:

Industry news

The Spanish Ministry of Culture has granted 8M€ to 133 game development, podcasting and digital creation projects as part of its Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. As a requirement for participation, companies had to detail the type of project to which they will allocate the money. Popular studios such as The Game Kitchen (Taco Mobile), Chibig (Bel), Abylight Barcelona (Citadelum) and Broken Bird Games (Luto) are part of the list. See all the businesses involved here.

Games released this week

CLeM, the new narrative-driven puzzlevania game by Mango Protocol, is out now on Steam and all console systems (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch). It is part of their Psychotic Adventure series together with Agatha Knife, Mecha Nika and their crossover title Colossus Down.

Players will wake up in a dark basement as a stuffed toy with no memories. Next to him will appear a mysterious notebook with the label “CLeM” on the cover, and a very clear message inside: “Bring me BEAUTY”. The only way to get more information and put all the pieces together will be to explore and solve the riddles hidden in each room. Also, there’ll be room for crafting magical potions and artifacts!

Watch CLeM’s trailer and don’t miss it if you liked the tragic story behind The Binding of Isaac!

Deck-building roguelike Vegangsters, by Poison Pill Games, released a new demo on Steam. Players will join private Patt Atita and his brother Sweet in a personal fight against the worst criminals of Tubercle City. Engage in real-time turn-based battles where planning ahead will be key to beet your rivals, and forge alliances with the citizens to free neighbourhoods from the influence of mafia. There will be no peas for the wicked!

So much stress is bad for health! Maybe a quick dip will help you relax. And Scyla, by Belice Studios, seems… perfect for that purpose. You’ll play as Doris, a woman who decides to go in search of hidden treasure near the island of Cabo Verde. To find it, you’ll first have to explore a mysterious cave system within the depths of the sea.

Escape the COSMIC HORROR that seems to hide there. Yes, very soothing, indeed…

¡Música, maestro! Put your coordination skills to test in Encounters: Music Stories, a two-handed rhythm game by Raquel G. Cabañas. Originally released on mobile platforms, this casual game challenges players to control two different instruments at the same time, one with the right hand and one with the left, to create a new melody. For the most daring users, it features a mode for playing in the dark.

Do you have what it takes to become a virtuoso?

It’s hard to be a boss! Especially if you’re a villain who doesn’t care about employee rights. Sometimes you have to deal with things like unruly workers and, ugh, labor strikes. Or what’s worse, a revolution in the office! That’s what happened to Ardwiz, the protagonist of Aard and Wyzz: The Rise Of Minions (Curious Imp).

Due to this stressful situation, Ardwiz was split in two. So now, Aard and Wyzz have to join forces and do what it takes to get back to normal. Will they learn their lesson after all?
