Games From Spain News Recap: 30 August - 6 September, 2024

Welcome back, dear readers!

One more Friday, we’re back to offer you an exhaustive summary of the latest events in the Spanish video game industry. This time, in a special post-Gamescom 2024 edition — because, in case you missed it, Games From Spain spent a week in Cologne promoting our talented companies.

From developers to publishers, going through all types of outsourcing services, accelerators and education centers, some 60 businesses attended the German fair under our representation in search of funding, international visibility for their projects, and new opportunities. That’s three times more companies than in 2022, and confirms the growing influence that Games From Spain is gaining on the international scene as a seal of quality and curation.

Industry updates

The Mexican producer Diego B. Mayorga, co-director of Mariachi Legends (Halberd Studios), and the English researcher Amber Pasternack will be at Indie Dev Day 2024, the largest annual indie game fair in Spain. Both will have their own conference where they will share their knowledge.

The 7th edition of this popular event will take place in Barcelona, Catalonia, from 27-29 September. Buy your profesional or private tickets here.

Now on Kickstarter

Altered Alma, the sci-fi metroidvania adventure by 2Awesome Studio and Critical Reflex, reached its 40,000 funding goal in just 6 hours. As of today, the game has raised 200% of the original amount and is likely to exceed €100,000 this weekend.

Altered Alma follows the story of Jackelyne, a mercenary pursued by her own clan and condemned to unearth a dark past that will shake the foundations of the entire system. Players will engage in savage acrobatic battles, meet a colorful cast of allies and face multiple decisions that will shape up the destiny of Jack’s crew. Also, for the first time in the story of the studio, there will be a dating system feature.

2Awesome Studio revealed that the legendary game writers Antony Johnston (Resident Evil Village, Dead Space) and Emma Beeby (Tails of Iron, Still Wakes the Deep) worked on the game’s narrative. The adventure takes place in the same multiverse as Neon Drive and Dimension Drive, featuring the darkly beautiful city of Neo Barcelona, although it’s not necessary to play them all to enjoy this new title.

If you’re curious about its gameplay style, don’t miss Altered Alma’s first ever public demo. Now on Steam!
