The Canarian studio Quantum Box will develop a new RPG together with ex-Square Enix’s Kenichi Nishi and Keita Eto

Welcome back, regulars and visitors:

What a week to be alive, huh? The biggest dream of Nintendo fans has come true with the reveal, a bit controversial, of the Nintendo Switch 2, the first official member of the 10th generation of consoles CES 2025 came with many leaks and strong speculations around when NIntendo would play their best card. Finally, the Japanese corporation decided to share a modest first look into the aspect and main features of the Nintendo Switch successor. Quite traditional and continuist for some, it should be said.

Anyway, it’s a fact that Nintendo Switch 2 will bring new chances to spread the talent of Spanish game developers around the world. We’ll have to wait until April 2, 2025 to learn more about the technical side of the new queen of portable consoles. And, who knows… we may receive other surprising news in the following days! For now, dreaming is free.

Industry Update

Quantum Box , a video games studio based in Gran Canaria, will co-develop a game with Route24, the Japanese studio run by Kenichi Nishi (Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG). Keita Eto, another veteran developer from Square Enix (Final Fantasy III, Chrono Trigger, Xenogears), will be part of the project as well. The Japanese investment worth 1.99 million dollars will be allocated for the development of a new RPG named Kiriko The Mystic. This partnership was born from a meeting at the Tokyo Game Show 2024.

Now, Quantum Box opens a new round of investment to secure their stay in the Canary Islands until the project is complete. Thanks to the Canary Islands Special Zone, this area is now home to more than 20 Spanish studios and thousands of video game workers.

Enter a world of fantasy where you’ll meet many brave generals that will catch your heart: Jesper, the wicked tactician; Kairos, the uncorruptible hero; Raiden, the lost emperor; and Serafel, the heaven’s warrior. Will you declare love or war to them? Uncover the many paths of this story through your actions in the battlefield and some dialogue choices.
