Description

Ramón Méndez has a PhD on Translation & Paratranslation of Videogames. He’s been working in the video game industry since 2003, where he works as a journalist in many important magazines and radio programs (MeriStation, GamesTribune, Manual, Edge, NGamer, Radio Marca, GameReactor...). He also works as translator and interpreter of the Spanish branches of several important video game companies (such as Bandai Namco Ibérica or Nintendo España). Since 2009, he’s been working as a video game localizer and he has worked in the Spanish localization of almost 1000 games to date, with important titles such as several Assassin’s Creed games, Watch Dogs 2, Far Cry 4, Cuphead, several Hitman games, Octopath Traveler, League of Legends, Until Dawn, Fable III, Skyrim, Broken Sword 5, Neo Cab or Into the Breach, among many other projects. He also has extensive experience in video games set in fantasy worlds, such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, both Divinity: Original Sin, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning or Baldur’s Gate 3, among others. To date, he has received more than 30 awards and nominations, both for his job as a translator and his job as a journalist. He is also a teacher at University of Vigo and collaborates with many other universities from Spain and the whole world. At University of Vigo, he created the innovative Specialized Degree in Translation for the Video Game Industry (ETIV, from its Spanish acronym). He published several dozens of academic papers and he is the author of five books  (Localización de videojuegos: fundamentos teóricos para nuevas prácticas profesionales; El legado del Lobo Blanco: El universo de Geralt de Rivia y la saga The Witcher; Persona: Un viaje al fondo de la psique humana; two more in press at the moment) and the co-author of three books (La odisea de Shenmue; Videojuegos y [para]traducción: aproximación a la práctica localizadora; another one in press at the moment), all of them about video game culture and localization.
